JQuery File Selector Example

May 20, 2014 by Krishna Srinivasan Leave a Comment

JQuery file selector selects all the elements with type file. In general we can say that, it is dialog box which displays tree of folders and files that allows users to select a file from the file system. It allows user to select any type and number of files from his local machine and navigate through the file system. The syntax for the file selector is written as “:file”, you have touse with colon and tag name. lets look at the simple example using the JQuery file selector.

JQuery File Selector Syntax
$(“:file”)
It defines file selector which selects all the elements of type file.

JQuery File Selector Example
<!doctype html>
<head>
<title>JQuery File Selector</title>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.0.min.js"></script>
</head>
<h2>JQuery File Selector Example</h2>
<style>
.myfile
{
font-size:15px;
color:green;
}
</style>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$(":file").css("border", "1px orange solid");
});
</script>
<body>
<form>
Name:<input type="text" name="uname"><br>
Select File:<input type="file" name="file" class="myfile">
</form>
</body>
</html>
• As shown in the above program, we have used the code inside $(document).ready which is an event which fires up when document is ready. It will run once the page document object model is ready for JavaScript code to execute.
 • $(“:file”).css(“border”, “1px orange solid”); line defines file selector which selects all the elements of type file.
 • When we run the above script, we will get file selector with orange color border and display the line ”No file chosen” with green color.
