3 Best Free FTP Clients for Windows and Mac Users

December 8, 2016 by Krishna Srinivasan Leave a Comment

If you’re a developer, there’s a good chance that you rely on some sort of FTP client to give you live access to a remote server. An FTP client allows you to access any remote server as long as you have the correct credentials. From the server, you can add, remove, or edit any of the files to change the style, structure, or functionalities of a web app. If you’re in the market for a new FTP client, check out any of these three free options below:

1. Filezilla

Filezilla is a free FTP client for both Windows and Mac (and Linux!) users. This is one of the most popular FTP clients available. Some of its best features include a handy site manager for easy access to servers whose credentials you’ve saved, drag and drop file transfer capabilities, and an easy to use tabbed interface.

2. Cyberduck

Cyberduck is another awesome open-source FTP client available as a free download to both Mac and Windows users. Cyberduck allows you to bookmark your files for optimal organization and seamlessly integrates with any text editor, which is a huge plus for developers who have a preferred editor they like to use when they’re writing code.

3. FireFTP

Like the other FTP clients on this list, FireFTP is free and cross-platform compatible. The best part about this FTP client is that it was designed to work seamlessly with the Firefox browser. It’s actually just a browser extension, so if Firefox is your browser of choice, this is a great option that allows you to edit files remotely straight from your browser window.
